March 2021 Newsletter

Are you ready to March4MHC on March 4-5?

Scholarship aid has never been more important, so the March4MHC Challenge returns next Thursday and Friday with a focus on scholarship aid. Our goal: 4,000 donors in 48 hours. A group of anonymous donors will give $50,000 to The Mount Holyoke Fund for every 500 donors who make a gift of any size during the challenge days. Your gift matters. Every gift matters.

From time to time, we spotlight fellow alumnae in the Club Newsletter. We hope you enjoy hearing about their experiences in their own words.

Meet Zanethia Eubanks from Class of 1994

  1. What was your major at Mount Holyoke? Major: Mathematics. Minor: Theater.

  2. What are you doing now? IT Project Management in Homeland and Cyber Security at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). I am also a Commissioned Officer (Commander) in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS).

  3. How did you end up in your current role? After graduating from MHC, I attended graduate school at Emory University-Rollins School of Public Health where I majored in Health Policy and Management and graduated in 1997. I began my public health career working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and became a Commissioned Officer in the USPHS in June 2009. Since being commissioned, I have worked as a Project Manager and Senior Program Officer at several agencies such as: the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and most recently the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). All of my public health, project management and team lead experience lead me to NOAA.

  4. What’s your favorite place or activity in the DC area? I love the museums in DC. The National Museum of African American History and Culture is my favorite.

  5. What’s one thing that you learned at MHC that you use in your daily life that you didn’t think you would? One of the things I learned at MHC is how to communicate with others. MHC was such a diverse experience for me where I was able to communicate with women from various cultures, nationalities, religious ideologies, socioeconomic backgrounds, racial identities and sexual preferences. It taught me what it means to be inclusive versus tolerant. I learned that I may not agree with everyone I encounter but, everyone has worth and value. I apply this in my personal and professional relationships.

  6. Do you know the words to the alma mater and Bread and Roses? Of Course! My favorite part of the alma mater is “Mount Holyoke forever shall be, Mount Holyoke forever shall be” the place where I entered as a girl and left as a woman! Hear Me Roar!

  7. When you’re feeling the need for M&Cs, what do you reach for (cookie, ice cream, chocolate bar, pie, etc.)? Since COVID 19, I have definitely reached more for the M&Cs. My favorite is dark chocolate almonds, vegan cookies and eggnog ice cream. I LOVE Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!

  8. What is a special saying you’d like to share with others?

“Lead by Example”

“Learn Constantly”

“Live with Integrity and Love Always!”

Your legacy is your life, so live it!”
